Honey Teapot

I love tea pots and I love tea. Here is my mother's favorite tea recipe for Lemon Ginger Honey Tea. See recipe and photo of honey jar below.

Pour a cup of honey into a jar
Mix with a few teaspoons of diced lemon and ginger
Let sit (minimum 1 day)
Add one spoonful of delightful honey mixture to your hot tea or hot water
Do nothing for a half hour to purely enjoy

New York Wedding Library, Wedding Party 2010

Amazing event at the Palace Hotel today - the Wedding Library's Wedding Party 2010. The must go to event for planning brides and grooms. If you didn't get a chance to make it and your wedding is for Summer 2011, be sure to put a reminder on your calendar for next year! It was mesmerizing going by everyone's tables. Here are some photos of my table (pretty cute and casually romantic...?) and a few shots of some of the great displays there. What a dream!

Cynthia & Tom: A Queens Garden Wedding featured on Brides New York

I'm so happy to announce that Cynthia and Tom's amazing wedding at the Queen's Farm will be published in Brides New York Spring and Summer 2010! When Cynthia and Tom met with me earlier in the year, I could tell that they were an extremely creative couple. Just like I predicted, their wedding was set in the picturesque garden and farm museum in Queens, NY with astoundingly creative details - especially on the part of Tom, who has major groom style! A gallery of the wedding can be found here.

The bride wore a Bridal Garden Novissima dress, hair by Commune Salon and flowers by Sprout Home. The groom wore J.Crew and Paul Smith sneakers with a boutonniere made from old film and a NYC map. Keil Brothers Nursery provided the succulents and Smoking Grill/Bon Soir provided the catering. Wedding bands/rings by DeBeers and Stuart Moore.

He has been known as E, Hugh, Eli, Elijah... and many other different pronunciations but Elihu has been consistently part of the Jen Huang Photography family since the beginning. Starting out as a second shooter, Elihu quickly began to shoot weddings on his own and is now officially a Jen Huang Photographer. His work is saturated with a classic style mixed with whimsical details and strong candid moments. We snapped the shots below before an event in upstate New York. Happy new year friends, family, bloggers, readers, brides & grooms! As the end of 2009 approaches, I wanted to thank and bless the people who have helped make it such a successful year and also wish everyone an even happier 2010.

2009 was blissful. I traveled from the east coast to the west coast and as far as Tibet to take photos for myself and others. I met so many interesting people and have probably tried every hor d'oeuvre there is. I am so honored by every single bride and groom who chose and trusted me on their important wedding day. I wish them joyful marriages with lots of kids!

I thank the creative bloggers and magazine editors who chose my work as inspirations, and I eagerly await my features in The Knot and Get Married magazine next year. Thank you to Style Unveiled, The Wedding Chicks, Brooklyn Bride and Style Me Pretty for their brilliant online spreads of my images. I am always taken aback by how different and awesome my photos can look through a talented editor's eye.

I am so lucky to be surrounded by such supportive people: my wonderful second shooters, Elihu, Liang, Anne and Emma - you guys had my back at every event and I can't wait to shoot with you again next year; My parents and best friends who constantly rave about my work to everyone and anyone; All the wonderful wedding vendors and bloggers who selflessly promoted my work both to clients and peers.

2010 is already starting to look fantastic. Summer is booking up fast and I am meeting with wonderful brides and grooms every week. There will be beautiful east coast and west coast weddings, as well as some stunning destination affairs. 2010 will be the first year that I will be a part of the prestigious New York Wedding Library. Along with this honor I will be participating in some fun bridal shows, meeting new vendors and creating some more ravishing Cypress and Queensberry albums.

Since winters are slightly less hectic than summers I hope to spend much of it at my cottage in San Diego, taking care of Gatsby, my new french bulldog. Trips are being planned for France, Spain, India and China. I might even drive my car across the country - perhaps a trip to the salt flats or the grand canyon?

It is both exhilarating and exhausting to have my whole life and future in my hands. But it's definitely a blessing and one I wouldn't trade for anything. Everyday is a breath of fresh air.

My Bharati's Engaged!

It is wonderful and joyous when a much loved friend is engaged. Bharati and I have known each other since kindergarten, and now she's all grown up and beautiful and engaged! Thanksgiving in San Diego means 80 degree weather and warm post dinner walks with the ocean breeze. Blissful! My friend Josh had me over at his parent's house and their spread was so charming! It was a delicious meal. Thanks Clavells!

Laura & Jordyn - Wedding at Mandarin Hotel and PerSe

Laura and Jordyn were married at PerSe at the Time Warner Center at Columbus circle. What's not to love? The Vera Wang dress, Christian Louboutin wedding shoes, the awesome PerSe cuisine and the beautiful NYC fall foliage... the flowers were by Saipua - one of my favorite florists in NYC. Laura and Jordyn decorated the foyer of PerSe with simple and elegant bud vases and frame photos of their childhood. Guests were invited to sit at tables marked by bottles of vintage wines. I loved shooting this wedding - it was so classic New York.

Dory & Chris - Vintage NY City Hall Wedding

This was one of my favorite City Hall shoots in New York City. Mostly because Dory and Chris were so darn cute. I love "MadMen" so I was fawning all over their awesome outfits. Dory wore a blue dress (something blue!) from French Connection, and Chris wore a vintage suit made by Ermengegildo Zegna Napoli Couture. Dory also made her feather headpiece by hand - talented! Lisa & Paul - Temple Israel Wedding, Long Island, NY

When I met Lisa she exuded the kind of energy that photographers can only dream of! We had a great engagement session with her and her fiance Paul at Riverside park in the fall and just recently I photographed her luxurious Temple Israel wedding. This temple is gorgeous, with romantic architecture and a reception space designed to resemble the Wynn, Las Vegas. Lisa and Paul looked gorgeous on their brilliant fall day. Full gallery here.

Chaoyan & John - Berkeley Botanical Gardens Wedding

Chaoyan & John are native New Yorker's who ventured to beautiful Berkeley to tie the knot at the Berkeley Botanical Gardens. The Brazilian room there faces acres of mountains and pastures. Chaoyan and John touchingly revealed during the reception that Chaoyan is pregnant! What a lovely surprise for all their family who made the trip from as far as China. Can't wait to meet their beautiful baby boy. I'm all smiles looking at these photos.

Spent the better half of a day putting together some goodies for new brides at an upcoming Pronovias event: three beautiful Jen Huang Wedding postcards tied with an organic ribbon and a little card congratulating them on their engagement. The letterpressing is by my friend Bill at Lambert Letterpress. Bill printed my awesome business cards a while back. Thought it would be a great time to showcase my cards and his work!

Fall Wedding Inspiration and Recent Happenings

Recently I've been working hard and traveling a lot! The madness won't end until about mid December but these hectic times come with some great news for my studio. I have been newly christened a Style Me Pretty Destination photographer in addition to being one of their best wedding photographers in New York, California and Hawaii. Thanks to Abbye, Eddye, Michelle and all the girls at SMP for the recent Little Black Book feature on my blissful Hawaii wedding. I am also honored to be published in the new Get Married magazine, Fall 2009 and the Winter issue of Monadnock Living + Elegant Settings Magazine. Can't wait to get those two magazines in the mail.
In November, I am excited to shoot the Pronovias flagship event in NYC for all the great people at theKnot.com. Pronovias designs amazing wedding gowns, and theKnot.com is such a wonderful resource for brides; it's fantastic to be involved with these two great companies.
Charmed Events (Frances Liu) interviewed me a few weeks ago about my work - incredibly flattering from such a kind and talented planner, I was absolutely charmed!

Ola from Brasil! + How my iPhone was stolen

Hello everyone! I'm currently in Fortaleza, Brasil, returning next week. I apologize if you are trying to reach me on the phone, but write me an e-mail!
As you know, I had my iPhone stolen a few weeks ago. I've got my replacement now but wanted to share the story because 1. it's crazy and 2. it may save your phone from being stolen in the future.
So, I was driving in San Francisco with a friend after a wedding shoot. We were stopped in front of his house shooting the breeze when a dark green car start sputtering down the street. The driver haphazardly got out and started pushing his vehicle. Once he reached my car, he asked for help in broken English. Given that I am more often than not an extremely trusting person, I gave him my iPhone (mistake no. 1). The man "called" a friend and started checking under the car's hood, asking questions, making comments etc. This went on for about 20 minutes. My friend and I eventually got out of our car and started walking around his front walkway, paying no attention to the driver (mistake no. 2). After an additional 15 minutes of him yammering away on the phone, we were wary but didn't ask him for the phone back (mistake no. 3). We had our backs to the car when all of a sudden we heard the roar of an engine and turned to see the green car's taillights breezing down the street. Car not broken. iPhone gone. Lesson learned.
The worst part of this whole ordeal wasn't the fact that my iPhone was stolen (it could have been much worse, he could have taken my cameras, laptop, car), but that the whole trip back to NY, I had such a heavy feeling of distrust in my heart. It's wrong to take advantage of someone's kindness! I hope that I continue to help those in need, but I won't be putting my phone into anyone's hands from now on... also, I bought some iPhone insurance!
Moving on, soon I will have some wonderful photos to share with you from weddings at Guastavino's, Tribeca Grill and more. There are also some great fall details that I think are very inspirational. Keep checking back!

*Delicious fall dinner prepared by my good friend Elia Mrak Blumberg. The drink, "Hangover Cure," was made by our mutual friend Jed. The girl, "Zoe," is sporting a very lovely flea market dress which I want to steal. Snap Dragon is a great wine!
